Award Season Wrap Up

January is the perfect month to plan your reading goals for this year. These goals don’t have to be a certain number of books to read or pages read. They can be something like wanting to read all of the award-winning books or wanting to read more books from different genres. Whatever your reading goals are, I thought I would share the final winners from this year's literary awards to help inspire your goals. I know I said the best and most prestigious book awards were The Booker Prize, the Nobel Prize in Literature, the National Book Award, and the Pulitzer Prize, but here are the winners from other book awards to add to your TBR. Until next time, happy reading!

Pulitzer Price for Fiction:

Night Watch by Jayne Anne Phillips

National Book Award:

James by Percival Everett

Booker Prize:

Orbital by Samantha Harvey

Side Note: I was lucky enough to stop by the Booker Prize exhibit at Piccadilly's Waterstones store here in London, where they had the trophy displayed, as well as the beautifully handbound shortlisted books. The winners and shortlisted books from every previous year were available for purchase. It was an absolute book lovers' delight! I had to use all of my self-control not to snag several. However, I couldn't stop myself and left with a copy of A Guest at the Feast signed by Colm Tóibín himself.

International Booker Prize:

Kairos by Jenny Erpenbeck

National Book Critics Circle Award:

I Am Homeless If This Is Not My Home by Lorrie Moore

Kirkus Prize:

James by Percival Everett

Women’s Prize for Fiction:

Brotherless Night by V.V. Ganeshananthan

Pen Faulkner Award:

What Happened to Ruthy Ramirez by Claire Jiménez

Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction:

The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters

Nebula Award:

The Saint of Bright Doors by Vajra Chandrasekera

Giller Prize:

Held by Anne Michaels

Nobel Prize in Literature:

Han Kang

I’m already foaming at the mouth thinking about the potential of next year’s literary award season!
