Take Me to Church

The Strand Book Store is a New York City landmark. It boasts “18 Miles of Books." The New York Times calls it the “king of the city’s independent bookstores." I call it heaven on Earth. It’s a place full of wonders and possibilities, and somewhere you can easily spend 3 hours and hundreds of dollars. And last weekend, that’s exactly what I did. I took advantage of Strand’s buy a $100 gift card, get $20 free a few years ago. I bought one for myself and was gifted one for Christmas. So, with a few hundred dollars’ worth of gift cards hot in my hand, I went on my dream book shopping spree. The sky was the limit, baby!

With most of the books priced lower than the cover price and a wide selection of gently used books, your dollar goes pretty far.

My haul

I was especially excited to get my hands on Challenger by Adam Higginbotham, which had just come out last Tuesday, and even more excited that it was a signed copy. But wait, that’s not all! There was also a signed first edition copy of The Demon of Unrest, the new Erik Larson book, that also came home with me.

Can’t you just smell the new-book smell wafting through your screen? Until next time, happy reading!
